Christmas Memories Come Alive with Holiday Scents
Close your eyes for a moment and remember Christmas from your childhood. The sights and sounds are there but it is the smells that bring Christmas memories alive for me and bring back sweet moments where family time was special.
Grandma’s banana bread, hot chocolate by the fireplace and my Daddy’s cologne are some of the most important scents for me.
Now that I have grown and become a mother of two boys, creating the Christmas memories for them with sights, sounds, but most importantly smell is something important for me. They may not realize what I am intentionally doing with them, but I do.
The moments of today will become their memories tomorrow.
The little touches around the home are what my boys are already remembering about Christmases from their past. Gingerbread houses, hot chocolate, putting ornaments on the tree, and making cookies for Santa. These are their memories now. I can only imagine what they will remember of Christmas when they are in their twenties or when they become a father.
One simple way to use scents is by lighting a candle. Not only is it a small touch to warm up my home and a great way to entertain, but it also helps fill the home with scents where my children will stop and say something that I love.
