Our Home Under Construction

Thank you BHI for sponsoring my post today. Explore the benefits of a newly built home. Learn more here.

One year ago today I was standing outside in the Arizona heat looking at our home under construction. It was a moment I had only dreamed of and I wanted someone to pinch me just to make sure it was reality. More than a month went by before I revealed our big secret, because it still seemed like a dream.

Here I am typing this in our new home that is almost ten months old. When I look back on everything we have been through I can only say what an amazing journey to experience for our family.

Although newly built homes are more energy efficient, there are so many more additional benefits to building your own home, including the ability to personalize your home as you wish during the building process. Selecting items to help our electricity expenses during the tremendously hot summer months and make our home more energy efficient was just as important to us as the color of ceramic tile, carpet, paint color, lighting fixtures, and bathroom fixtures.

Out of all of the benefits of building a home though, the one that meant the most to me was watching the construction.

We did not put a single nail in the walls or build it with our own hands, but we witnessed every step of our home under construction from the time the footers were in place until it was finished just four short months later.

Watching our home under construction from the ground up was a bonding time for our family.

We stopped by often to see the sometimes small changes and sometimes tremendous changes that happened in just a few days time. Each time I took photographs to document the progress and remember our journey.

Occasionally I took videos at our house, but clearly I did not take enough video. If you want to see what a home under construction looks like through the eyes of my then six year old son when he can no longer explore and touch freely because we entered the stage where insulation was installed and still exposed, watch the unscripted video below that was filmed exactly one year ago today.

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective, and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own. #StartFreshBuyNew #CGC

Cute! Only a few people get the chance to watch the construction of a home they will share with their family. I wish I had that chance too.
