Pixar’s Best Short Film

Pixar's Best Short Film Lava

With any Disney/Pixar release, we have come to expect what Pixar calls a Short Film. With the release of Inside Out we see Pixar’s Best Short Film and by far my favorite Short Film of all time. Lava.

Some of the previous Short Films we have seen from Pixar include Red’s Dream, Partly Cloudy, and The Blue Umbrella but Lava is the best.

Lava is the story of a tropical Pacific island volcano name Uku. Uku is very lonely. Every day he sees the animals of the island and the ocean all enjoying life together with their mates.

Each day Uku sings his song.
I have a dream.
I hope will come true.
You’re here with me and
I’m here with you.
I wish that the earth, sea and sky up above,
Will send me someone to Lava.
Uku continues to sing his song every day for thousands of years, waiting for someone to come for him to love. And each day, Uku begins to sink down into the water that surrounds him.
Unbeknownst to Uku, there is an underwater volcano name Lele who has been hearing Uku sing his song ever day for thousands of years. She longs to meet the one who is singing this beautiful song.

As time continues to go, Uku continues his song and continues to sink into the ocean. As Uku sinks below the ocean depths Lele rises to the surface, but cannot find the one who has been singing this beautiful song has touched her heart for thousands of years.

Lele does not give up hope and she starts to sing.
I have a dream.
I hope will come true.
You’re here with me and
I’m here with you.
I wish that the earth, sea and sky up above,
Will send me someone to Lava.
What happens next reminds us how powerful love truly can be.

In seven short minutes, Pixar gives us one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever seen. This makes it Pixar’s Best Short Film of all time.

I hope that you have found “someone to Lava.”
