Robotic Maid Vacuum with iRobot Roomba 870

iRobot Roomba 870

Dreaming about hiring a maid to clean your house comes a little bit closer for many of us with the iRobot Roomba 870. Just one use of this amazing little machine sent to us to review from Best Buy makes everyone in the house happier and brings back childhood memories of watching The Jetsons’ maid, Rosie.

Designed to work with pets in a house, the Hepa filter keep allergens and dander out of the air. For our house, this is very important since we have two cats and lots of allergies.

How to set up the iRobot Roomba in three easy steps

  1. Place upside down and remove two tabs.
  2. Turn over. Set the date and time.
  3. Charge overnight.

For those who are challenged with technology, once you follow the three steps above all you have to do is press “clean” when you want the robot to clean your carpet. You can take it a step further by programming the Roomba to automatically vacuum designed areas at specific times.

You never have to worry where the Roomba is as it automatically returns to the base when it needs charging.

Compared to our existing vacuum cleaner this Roomba is relatively quiet and you can hear the sound in our video below.

With just one use of the Roomba, the dust bin was completely full even though we vacuumed recently. It was an amazing amount pulled out of the carpet in what looked like a clean room. As someone who has allergies and asthma, seeing the Roomba pull out extra allergens helps me breath better.

Although you should not place any objects on top of the Roomba, we did place R2D2 on top of it to get a clear view of how the Roomba moves on the carpet. You can watch the video below of this vacuum in action but be warned, you just might chuckle as we did when it seems like the Roomba is chasing the cat. No cats were harmed in the making of this video or during the use of the Roomba. All tails are accounted for and as you can see in the video, Mickey the cat began to settle down with the robotic vacuum after just a little bit. Minnie the cat was an entirely different story and it took her nearly an hour before she would even peek in the room.
