Shredding with Shaun White skateboards
Skateboarding was not a word that I would expect to be saying in my house. My coordination is not the best, and the last time I had been on a skateboard, I went one way and the skateboard went another.
We headed to Walmart to pick up a new helmet and while we were there we checked out the skateboards. My boys have talked about skateboards time and time again. Whether it was something a friend had, they saw one on TV, or saw a video game related to skateboarding.
We thought this would be a perfect time to introduce a skateboard to the mix. Only thing is, we did not tell the boys.
As we headed to the helmets I saw the Shaun White Supply Co display in the center aisle but we were already making our way down the aisle towards the bicycle helmets. After picking out a new helmet that fit, we saw a display of skateboards for kids on the back wall. There were plenty to choose from. Some looked rather plain. Others that had some cool graphics didn’t look like they would be able to take the punishment my boys would put them through.
The styles and designs of the Shaun White line of skateboards were quite distinctive from the other styles.
We took a look at a few and then headed back up to the main aisle of the store. Here we saw the display showcasing all the different styles that were available. I picked one up to take a look at it. These skateboards were heavier than I thought they would be. They seemed very durable. This is not something that I would have to return in a couple days because it broke.
While we were looking at the different styles, my children were drawn to two different skateboards. My youngest one liked the AMP Series Moto Skull, while my oldest one was drawn to the Thrash Series Easy Rider. These two were chosen due to the rich colors and the fact that each one had a motorcycle on it. After some discussion, we decided to go with the Easy Rider.
They really were surprised when it was placed in our shopping cart to take home.
So often, life gets busy. It is wonderful to be able to take time and work on learning something new. This is the case with skateboards and skateboarding. The boys are always interested in learning new things. This was no exception. They made sure to put on their helmets and then the knee and elbow pads.
The safety gear proved to be really important for the first day on the skateboard.
We found a nice spot where there were not a lot of people around. We started with some basics, getting on and off of the skateboard. We worked on balance. Both boys took their first falls off the skateboard. We made sure they got back on after the fall.
They are so excited about learning a new skill. They are proud of their skateboard and are enjoying learning how to ride.
It is exciting to see my boys growing up. If feels like just yesterday I was pushing them in a stroller.
Now they are going to be shredding all over the place.
By the way, I had to look up what shredding meant.
I have a strong feeling the Shaun White Easy Rider will not be the last skateboard brought into our house.
